Principal’s Letter

As we journey through Lent, our March focus is to show reverence for our Lord’s name. Instead of saying “Oh God!” as an exclamatory response, try “Goodness,” “Gracious me” or “Gosh,” especially if your children are present. In addition to modeling reverence for the Lord’s name, I encourage your family to participate in the CRS Rice Bowl and the Lenten Service Tree. Located at the back of the Church, the ornaments on the Lenten Service Tree have suggestions for service and kindness this season. Or choose from this list to participate in an opportunity to experience Lent in very simple ways.

The middle school musical Frozen, Jr. opened this afternoon for students, faculty and staff; what a treat! Under the direction of Kari Aguila and her team, the students sang, danced and thrilled us all. The stage, lighting and sound crews were spot on. I can see why all performances are sold out. Recall, tickets cannot be purchased “at the door.” The cast and crew are so excited to share this year’s musical with you. We invite the audience to come in costume to get your picture taken with Olaf!

Speaking of costumes. What story will your costume tell at this year’s auction? I know you plan to join me at Fremont Studios on Friday, March 15, to celebrate our community and give to the school’s largest fundraiser. Now is the time to secure your auction tickets. Thank you auction team and parents for all the good work you are doing to prepare for the event!

And congratulations to Eli O., grade 8. He met with Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, who represents Seattle in the U.S. House of Representatives, to advocate for federal funding of medical research and legislation of healthcare affordability on behalf of the Type 1 Diabetes community. This effort follows his visit to Washington D.C. last July to meet with Senators Cantwell and Murray along with Rep. Jayapal. Keep up the great work, Eli!

The students are anxiously watching the playpit progress. The installation of the new red dome caused quite a stir; students cannot wait to try out the new area. On Monday contractors will be on site to pour the concrete foundations for the new equipment. Once the new equipment is installed, turf will be set later next week. Recall, the next round of funding is through the 2024 Fund-a-Need. It will help us complete the project, including the addition of new fencing. This is an exciting event for our campus. It will provide new, age-appropriate play structures and allow us to continue to honor the service of Seattle Police Officer and St. John graduate, Jackson Lone, the playground’s namesake, who died while serving the City.

God bless,

Bernadette O’Leary
