The Seattle Opera at St. John!

We are excited to welcome the Seattle Opera back to St. John! The Seattle Opera will be at St. John to perform Monkey & Francine in the City of Tigers on Friday, April 26, at 1:45pm in Egan Hall. This 45-minute opera for youth audiences is aimed at Grades K-5, and middle school drama elective students are welcome to join.

This year’s opera fuses folktales from India, China, and West Africa together to tell the story of Monkey and his brainy sister, Francine. The siblings must learn to cooperate to escape a hungry crocodile and outwit the greedy Lord of the Tigers. Combining multiple styles of music from Bollywood, Ethiopian jazz, Latin, and classical, this opera shares the timeless message that we all have different strengths, but when we work together, anything is possible.

Additionally this year, the Seattle Opera Teaching Staff will host performance prep classes to students in grades K-5. These classes will occur during Mrs. Villanueva’s regularly scheduled music class leading up to the performance. We are very excited about this opportunity for our students!

To help cover the cost of both the pre-performance classes and the Opera itself, we are treating this as an “On-Site Field Trip.” We request the following payment:

  • Grade K-2 = $5.00/child  (1 class + Opera)
  • Grade 3-5 = $8.00/child  (2 classes + Opera)

Please use the following link to make your payment and note payment is for “Seattle Opera, 4/2024”https://st-johnschool.org/no-cache-form-field-trip-special-events/. Financial aid is available; please contact Andrea Marquez, amarquez@st-johnschool.org
