Sign Up – GOTR, WATT, Spanish, Speed Stacking

  • Girls On the Run (GOTR)     St. John is hosting a Girls on the Run team this Spring!  Girls on the Run is an after-school girl empowerment program that creatively integrates non-competitive running and walking.  The program culminates in an end-of-season 5K event (3.1 miles) on Sunday, May 17, at Renton Memorial Stadium.  Registration is directly through Girls on the Run’s website.  Registration is open here: www.girlsrun.org/program-registration.  The season dates are the week of March 2 to May 18.  The team will practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15pm-4:45pm on St. John’s campus – no meeting April 6, 8, 13, 15.  Space is limited – the team size is 8-15 girls and a lottery will be held if more than 15 girls apply.  Financial aid and running shoes are available by request within the registration form.  If you have any questions about the program, please visit GOTR’s website, call 206-528-2118, or email info@girlsrun.org.
  • WATT (Women Advancing Tomorrow’s Technologists) is a student-led nonprofit organization based in the Seattle area.  The aim of WATT is to introduce computer science and logical thinking ideas to young girls in order to give them experience in a field that they may wish to pursue in the future.  This is a continuation of the Fall offering, so returning students are welcome.   WATT Club is for girls in grades 5-8 and held on Thursdays beginning March 5, for 5 sessions (3/5, 3/12, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2).  There is no fee for this offering.  Space is limited to 20 participants.  Registration opens Monday, January 20, 7pm.  Register here.
  • Spanish Club     St. John School will be hosting an after school Spanish Club for students in grades K-8.  The Spanish Club seeks to provide opportunities for students who desire a Spanish immersion experience.  Activities will include authentic language exchanges, cultural lessons, art, and games; preference will be given to students who exemplify a willingness to communicate only in the target language.  Students with near-native fluency are encouraged to register.  The Club will meet Wednesdays after school, beginning February 26, 3:05-4:05pm and continuing 3/4, 3/11, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/22, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, 5/20.  Cost per student, $65.  Registration opens Monday, January 20, 7pm.  Register here.  Limit of 16 participants.  Students in grades K and 1 –  a parent is required to attend.
  • Speed Stacking Club is an individual and team sport that involves stacking specialized plastic cups in specific sequences in as little time as possible.  Speed Stacking Club is open to students in grades 3-8 and is led by PE Instructor, Ms. Maria Tsagalakis.  The cost is $50 per student, a limit of 20 participants.  The club meets on Tuesdays, 3:15-4:15pm in Egan Hall, beginning Tuesday, February 4, for 7 sessions.  The class will be held in Portable 43.  Dates:  2/4, 2/11, 2/25, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24.  Registration opens Monday, January 20, 7pm.
