Principal’s Letter

This week was a week of celebration, both silly and sincere. We started the week with the Halloween Carnival. Hosted by crayons, cowboys and elves…erm, I mean middle school students, the gym was full of fun games to welcome students in the primary and intermediate grades; everyone had a grand time! After an evening of trick-or-treating with family and friends, our community gathered in church for All Saints Day Mass on Tuesday. It was a beautiful celebration. Fr. Crispin was so pleased to see new altar servers and sacristans. The intermediate choir led us in singing, and Sophia O. played the violin. Kindergarten students accompanied their seventh-grade buddies, learning to be lectors.

Yesterday, students in fourth and fifth grades participated in Día de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased loved ones for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. Señora Blanca, who directs the Spanish program, with the help of wonderful parent volunteers, organized a beautiful celebration where students honored their loved ones who have passed.

We welcomed prospective PreK and Kindergarten families to school this evening for the first Open House of the year. Thank you to the teachers, staff and parent volunteers who provided a warm welcome to families who may join our community next year. Our teachers are preparing to welcome current families to conferences next week. Please be punctual. It is important for students, parents and teachers to touch base on the student’s current progress and future growth.

Two housekeeping items: be sure to RSVP for Grand Day! We invite grandparents and special friends of students in grades 3, 4 and 5 to visit with their students on campus. And if you are interested and haven’t signed up for the Student On Campus Vaccination Clinic, contact our school nurse, Dora Hall, ARNP, to do so. The deadline to register is tomorrow.

Stay warm,

Bernadette O’Leary
