Principal’s Letter

We are the living presence of Christ. For a century, St. John Parish and School have helped people encounter Jesus, who loves, comforts, forgives and challenges us to be our best selves. What a gift!

As you prepare to continue the legacy and re-enroll your student(s), mark your calendar for State of the School next week. The virtual presentation will take place on Tuesday, January 24 at 7pm. The link will be emailed to families on Sunday and will also be available here as Tuesday approaches. For those who wish to attend the in-person State of the School presentation, we invite you to the Church on Thursday, January 26, 7pm.

Catholic Schools Week starts on Sunday, January 29. Join us as we take A Walk-Through Time with an all-school Open House, tours of the school and in Egan Hall for memorabilia presentations for alumni, current families and prospective families. Detailed information can be found on the CSW page.

We welcome Ms. Allison Zutz who will be the long-term substitute for Mrs. Costa. Ms. Zutz will shadow Mrs. Costa on January 25 and will take over for Mrs. Costa, who will start maternity leave on February 27. Ms. Zutz has a master’s degree in elementary education. She has taught kindergarten and third grade. As an alumna of St. Mark’s Catholic School in Shoreline, she is excited to be back at another Catholic school with a strong faith and academic community. She looks forward to her time at St. John, and we are excited to welcome her. We wish Mrs. Costa and her family the very best and look forward to hearing about the arrival of Baby Costa.

The Parish and School continue to receive messages from our neighbors regarding the blocking of driveways, illegal parking and speeding. Please continue to practice kindness in our community.

I end this letter wishing you a Happy Lunar New Year! This Sunday, many Asian cultures will celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. According to cultural lore, the Year of the Rabbit will usher in a time of calm and peace; it will be a chance to embrace contemplation and relaxation, and the year promises to bring prosperity and longevity.

Wishing you, then, a year filled with good fortune and double happiness,

Bernadette O’Leary
