Jog-a-thon Time!

T-shirts have been delivered, the running schedule is posted, and the runners are excited! Jog-a-thon is almost here. You are welcome to come and run with your children. I hope to be back from the annual Principals’ Retreat in time to run with some of the classes. Thank you for your donations and pledges. Keep them coming. Thanks to our fundraising team and all the volunteers who will take part in tomorrow’s fun.

On behalf of the St. John community, I say a huge thank you to the Parent Association and all the volunteers who made the Back-to-School Celebration a success. Delicious food, great company, and the dedication of all involved made it a most enjoyable event.

Part of what makes St. John so successful is the number of opportunities we have to gather together. This Sunday, Father Crispin and I look forward to seeing our community at the Blessing of the Backpacks Mass at 10:30am. He will invite the children to the altar and bless them and their backpacks. Be kind, and help our neighbors at Broadview-Thomson School by bringing healthy, non-perishable food items in the backpacks. The food will be collected at the doors of the church.  After mass, the Saint Francis of Assisi ministry will be sponsoring the Season of Creation Fair, which will be held in the Admin Building with coffee and doughnuts, of course. Learn about the Season of Creation and get inspired to reduce our carbon footprint and preserve creation for all.

We have another opportunity to gather together at Hip Hop & Lobster for the Endowment, Oct. 6. The date is fast approaching. Make your reservation; we will supply the bibs!

Fall MAP testing begins next week. Middle School students will test first, followed by intermediate students during the week of September 30. Primary students are scheduled to begin on October 7. MAP, or the Measures of Academic Progress is a computerized adaptive test, which helps teachers, parents, and students make informed decisions to promote students’ academic growth. Students do not have to specifically prepare for MAP testing; however, please encourage them to persist and do their best. A good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast will also help!

See you on Sunday!
